Hong Kong and South Australia sign Tourism Pact
     
  Mr Tsang (centre) proposes a toast with Mr Wong (third right) and Mr Weatherhill (third left)Bilateral trade and tourism between Hong Kong and South Australia are set to strengthen with the two countries signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Tourism Co-operation.

In addition to greater collaboration between South Australia and Hong Kong, the MOU also provides recognition to the gifting of eight koalas from Cleland Wildlife Park, South Australia, to Hong Kong’s award-winning Ocean Park.

Mr Andrew Wong, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism) of Hong Kong said the gift was significant and generous.

"We are very thankful to the Government of South Australia which has kindly agreed to present eight koalas to the Hong Kong Ocean Park in batches. This generous gift signifies the friendship between Hong Kong and South Australia, and certainly helps forge closer links between us," Mr Wong said.

Mr Wong signed the MOU on behalf of the Hong Kong Government with South Australian Minister for Tourism, Recreation and Sport, Mr Leon Bignell.

The Financial Secretary Mr John C Tsang and Premier of South Australia Mr Jay Weatherill witnessed the signing ceremony.

Australia is the 9th largest tourism market for Hong Kong, with over 630,000 arrivals last year. Reciprocally, Hong Kong was also Australia's 9th largest source market with over 170,000 Hong Kong residents going there in 2012.
