Hong Kong and Australia sign agreement on police cooperation

The Hong Kong police and Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement in Canberra to combat transnational crime, including drug trafficking, technology crime, economic crime and money laundering.

The MOU was signed on April 18 by the Commissioner of the Hong Kong Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung, and the Acting Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Mr Peter Drennan.

The agreement which was signed during Mr Tsang Wai-hung's visit to Canberra complements the existing cooperation between Hong Kong Police and AFP. It sets out a framework in tackling transnational crime and also bolsters the partnership in capacity building and professional development.

Following the signing, Mr Tsang held a meeting with the senior AFP officers on various policing issues of mutual concern.

"It is important that the Hong Kong police maintains a close and dynamic relationship with our regional partners when it comes to law enforcement in the ever-changing police environment," said Mr Tsang.
