  Hong Kong Chief Executive visits Australia  
     
  The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang visited Australia from 15 to 23 June, 2011 to strengthen the ties between Hong Kong and Australia, promote trade opportunities, and encourage more Australian companies, particularly resources companies, to list in Hong Kong.

During his visit, Mr Tsang held meetings with the Prime Minister, Ms Julie Gillard, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Kevin Rudd, as well as the leader of the Opposition, Mr Tony Abbott and the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Julie Bishop.

At the bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister in Canberra, Mr Tsang discussed the latest developments between Hong Kong and Australia. Both leaders agreed to strengthen co-operations in various areas, ranging from trade and investment to tourism and education.

Mr Tsang emphasized that Hong Kong is China's global financial centre and signatory of the Closer Economic Partnership Agreement with Mainland China. Under these conditions Australian companies are encouraged to list in Hong Kong, issue Reminbi bonds and set up offices.



 
  In Melbourne, the first leg of his visit, Mr Tsang met with the Governor of Victoria, Mr Alex Chernov and the Premier of Victoria, Mr Ted Baillieu and visited the Melbourne Docklands, Federation Square, and the Royal Children's Hospital. He also paid a visit to a number of wineries and a dairy in the Yarra Valley.  
 
 
     
  Still in Victoria, the Chief Executive met the Hong Kong emigrant community, as well as young Hong Kong people studying in local universities encouraging them to promote the city to the Australian community.  
     
  In Perth, Mr Tsang met the Premier of West Australia (WA), Mr Colin Barnett, Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Fisheries; Electoral Affairs, WA, Mr Norman Moore and the Acting Director General of Department of State Development, Mr Stephen Wood.

He also visited the Fremantle Port, WA's Maritime Museum, the waterfront development along the Swan River, and cuddled a koala. He took time out from Perth for a one-day visit to Karratha where he visited an iron ore mine owned by a subsidiary of a Hong Kong listed company, CITIC Pacific Limited, and the visitor centre of the North West Shelf's Liquefied Natural Gas Project.

During his week-long visit, the Chief Executive had speaking engagements at luncheons hosted by Asialink in Melbourne and another one hosted by the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Perth. He also had lunch with senior representatives of resources companies in WA.

In Sydney, Mr Tsang officiated at a reception for the unveiling of a heritage plaque for Hong Kong House jointly with the Governor of New South Wales, Professor Marie Bashir.

Mr Tsang was accompanied by the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Gabriel Leung; Private Secretary to Chief Executive, Ms Bernadette Linn; and Information Coordinator, Mr Andy Ho, Director of HKETO, Mr Steve Barclay and Deputy Director, Ms Linda Law.
