  HKNZBA watching CEP developments closely

New Zealand and Hong Kong have recommenced negotiations over a free trade agreement. The first round of new talks over what will officially be called the HK-NZ Closer Economic Partnership (CEP) will be held in Wellington, New Zealand early in May. The negotiations will start afresh after stalling over rules of origin in 2002 and come on the back of the successful conclusion of a free trade agreement between New Zealand and China last year.

The Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association has been consulted by New Zealand’s lead negotiator, former NZ Consul-General to Hong Kong Julian Ludbrook. He met with the association’s executive last month to sound out any concerns or issues the association’s members may have that they want the NZ team to cover.
