HKETO welcomes the Year of the Snake!

Attendees celebrate the South Australian Chinese New Year reception held in Adelaide. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) welcomes Chinese New Year through a series of receptions over the next three weeks across Australia and New Zealand. Celebrations have already taken place in Adelaide and Perth earlier this week and featured business, community and political leaders.

Steve Barclay, Director of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office speaking at the South Australian CNY reception."Chinese New Year is one of the most significant events in the Chinese calendar and each year, we reach out to business, community and political leaders to celebrate the festivities. Our receptions are a reminder that the HKETO is here to foster better relationships between Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong," said Steve Barclay, Director of the HKETO.

The Chinese New Year receptions are held in conjunction with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Invest Hong Kong and the local chapters of the HKABA and the HKNZABA.

Festivities will continue next week in Sydney, Wellington, Auckland and Melbourne and onto Brisbane, finishing in Canberra on the 19th of March.

"This year's celebrations remind Australians and Kiwis of the diverse business, arts and cultural opportunities Hong Kong has to offer and how it really is the gateway into China and the rest of Asia," said Mr Barclay.

"As we move into a new year, Hong Kong's role in helping Australia and New Zealand navigate the Asian Century will only become more evident."

"In his maiden Policy Address, Hong Kong Chief Executive C Y Leung laid out plans to extend the city's reputation as a financial, economic and cultural hub. As a result, as 2013 unfolds, I'm sure we'll see plenty of business opportunities and cultural exchanges between Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong."
