  HKABA-NSW Business Awards 2010  
     
  The Hong Kong-Australia Business Association (HKABA) NSW Chapter held its annual HONG KONG-NSW BUSINESS AWARDS on 29 October 2010. The Awards recognizes NSW companies that excel in all aspects of international trade between NSW and Hong Kong SAR, China.

The Awards, widely regarded as a prestigious badge of honour, were presented to winners at a ceremony held this evening at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney. The Award's Guests of Honour were: the Hon. Jason Clare MP, Minister for Defence Materiel representing the Hon. Julia Gillard MP, Prime Minister, Mr. Steve Barclay Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Sydney, Mr Ji Ningfeng Deputy Consul General, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney and The Hon. Philip Ruddock MP, Member for Berowra. This year the Keynote Speaker was Mr Don Grover CEO of Dymocks Group of Companies.
 
     
 
This year's Business Awards, and the Grand Prize Award were awarded to the most outstanding amongst the following six categories' winners:

  The independent judging panel was chaired by National Patron of HKABA, the Hon. Sir Laurence Street AC KCMG QC, with other professionals and industry heads including Ms. Joanne Scanlon, Customer Relationship and Events Manager, Volkswagen Group Australia, Ms. Kathy Chan, Admin & HR Manager, Hantec Markets (Australia) Pty Ltd, Mr. David Howard, State Manager NSW/ACT, Austrade; Ms. Bonnie Shek, Director of Australia & New Zealand, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Mr. Allen Rego, Manager National Accounts, Industry & Leisure Sales Australia, Qantas Airways Limited.

"I have been involved with the association now for a number of years and it amazes me that every year there is more and more SME's doing business with HK and China across a wide spectrum of industries. This is reflected in our entrants for our 2010 Awards" said Ms. Belinda Wong Chairman of the 2010 Business Awards Organising Committee.

The entrants were judged according to various criteria including professional approach to business practice, standard of marketing strategies, level of innovation, and proportion of import/export turnover. Environmental contribution of products/services to the industry and society as a whole was also considered. The companies that received the Hong Kong-Australia Business Association's (HKABA) NSW Annual Awards for 2010 were:

Winner: Homart Pharmaceuticals
Homart Pharmaceuticals specialises in contract manufacturing, local wholesale, and export of quality Australian health supplements and skincare products since 1992. They believe Australian products are the best, and they make and market these premium products to the whole world.

Homart provides prompt contract manufacturing from its Australian cGMP factory for Australian and worldwide clients. Homart also wholesales over 100 products of its own brands to more than 300 Australian retail stores. Our export continues to grow strongly in Asia, Middle-East, and USA, especially in Greater China where they achieve 50~100% annual sales growths and established a branch office in Shanghai since 2007.

TinyToys International Pty Ltd was established in 2001 and mainly imports remote control toys, electrical gadgets, educational toys and other novelty gifts. We have wholesale and retail divisions, both of which have made major contributions to our business success over the last two years.

Our import and wholesale arm is OzPowerhouse. It is the exclusive distributor in Australia and New Zealand of products like Bazoongi, USA brand name for Kids Play Tent (www.bazoongi.com); LaQ, Japanese product well known in Japan for Puzzle (www.laq.co.jp/en); i-Kiddo, Taiwan product for Kids Saving Bank); and DigiOne remote control toys.

After nearly 10 years in business, TinyToys International Pty Ltd has built well established systems to import and promote new products and services. They have built very unique systems for business that have proved to be very successful.

Winner: Synergy Computer Technology

The aim of Synergy Computer Technology is to introduce and promote Hong Kong-based Point-of-Sale (POS) software into the Australian main stream market.

Founded in 1999, its area of expertise is providing solutions to business partners on how to streamline their scan packing and logistics issues.

Synergy managing director, Raymond Luk MACS (Snr), not only had the vision of bringing Hong Kong-based SEITO F&B (food and beverage) systems into Australia, but also managed to modify the system to fully meet Australian market standards and requirements.

Synergy is a Coles Group Accredited EDI Solution Provider in Australia. It has also recently been chosen by Checkpoint Systems, Inc. as their EDI Solution consultant in both Hong Kong and Australia.


5. Creative SME Award

Ecruising Asia Pacific is a vertically integrated cruise travel company specialising in fly/cruise and stay holiday packages around the globe. We also charter small ships and coaches and this year, we even chartered a Boeing 737 400 for 140 guests! We took them on a private African Safari for seven nights after they had spent 17 nights on Queen Mary 2 from Sydney to Cape Town.
