2017 Policy Address
On 18 January, the Chief Executive Mr C Y Leung outlined plans in his 2017 Policy Address to make best use of opportunities, develop the economy, improve people’s livelihood and  build an inclusive society. On developing economy, the Government will explore further with the Mainland the expansion and enhancement of CEPA in investment, strengthen Hong Kong’s status as a global offshore Renminbi business hub and strive to complete by mid-2017 the procedures for Hong Kong joining the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The Policy Address also outlined initiatives to boost housing and land supply, enhance retirement protection system, and boost for education and sports.  Read more about Policy Address here.
     
Hong Kong and Shenzhen jointly develop Hong Kong Lok Ma Chau Loop
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 3 January, agreeing to jointly develop the 87- hectare Lok Ma Chau Loop into a Hong Kong/Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park which will become the largest innovation and technology platform ever established in Hong Kong. The Park will establish itself as a key base for co-operation in innovation and technology research to attract top enterprises and research institutions and higher education institutes of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, as well as those of other places in the Mainland and overseas. Related higher education, cultural and creative, as well as other complementary facilities will also be provided at the site, creating unprecedented space and opportunities for the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong.   Development of Hong Kong Palace Museum at West Kowloon Cultural District
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) will collaborate with the Palace Museum to develop the Hong Kong Palace Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District, with a view to showcasing the exquisite collections of the Palace Museum on a long-term basis. The Memorandum of Understanding of Co-operation between WKCDA and Palace Museum was signed in Beijing on 23 December 2016. The Hong Kong Palace Museum will have a floor area of 30,500 square metres. There will be permanent exhibitions showcasing relics on imperial life, as well as the history and culture of the Palace Museum. Other galleries will focus on its collections such as paintings and calligraphy, ceramics as well as other arts and cultural artefacts. Read more about the story here.
 
     
  Iron Man Experience opened in Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong Disneyland made a debut of the new ride - Iron Man Experience on 11 January. It is the first ever Marvel-themed ride in a Disney Park with Hong Kong elements integrated into a park attraction.  During the fly-through ride, tourists will fly over Tsing Ma Bridge, Victoria Harbour and the city’s mountain ranges.   Hong Kong airport passenger hits 70 million in 2016
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) welcomed its 70 millionth passenger on 29 December 2016. HKIA’s annual passenger throughput surpassed 60 million for the first time in 2014, and only two years later, it reached the 70 million mark. HKIA is one of the busiest airports in the world, and to date, the airport has won more than 60 “best airport” awards. Read more about the story here.
