No.4  August, 2013

  Foreword

Linda LawThe last couple of months have been eventful for HKETO (Sydney). In late July, we welcomed Mr. Eddie Ng, Secretary for Education and a delegation of early childhood education specialists to Melbourne; and in early August we assisted Mr. Gregory So, the Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development to promote Hong Kong in Auckland and Wellington.

Both visits bore fruitful results. Secretary for Education and his delegates exchanged experiences with the Victorian side on early childhood education, education for students with special needs and teacher training; Mr. Ng also took the opportunity to encourage Australian students to exchange and study in Hong Kong. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development met with key New Zealand officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Trade and Minister for Commerce. During his visit, news broke that some New Zealand baby formula might be contaminated with a bacteria that could lead to botulism. New Zealand officials briefed Mr. So with the latest developments around the incident and undertook to fully cooperate with Hong Kong’s food safety authority to minimise the situation that might affect Hong Kong consumers.
