Hong Kong named a top ten city for students

According to the latest Best Student Cities list, “Hong Kong is a bustling global city packed with seven leading educational institutes”Hong Kong has been named the seventh-best city in the world for students according to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings.

The city climbed 12 places in the annual Best Student Cities list and scored a total of 403 out of a possible 500. A total of 98 cities were in this year’s list.

Cities were judged according to five categories: university rankings, student mix, quality of living, employer activity in recruiting students and affordability.

According to QS head of research Ben Sowter, Hong Kong’s highest scores were 96 for employer activity, 94 for university rankings and 85 for student mix. The highest possible score for each category is 100.

"With employment upon graduation an increasing worry for students around the world, [Hong Kong’s] high employer activity combined with world class universities gives it a unique edge on the world stage," Mr Sowter said.

The annual report stated that Hong Kong was a global metropolis with quality education institutions. Of the seven leading institutions in Hong Kong, three rank amongst the top 40 in the world.

Hong Kong's high ranking in the report is in line with the city's top ranking in the "Best City Contest" organised by the Economist Intelligence Unit in 2012.
