Hong Kong artists featured in new Sydney exhibition

The exhibition will be held at Hong Kong House on 80 Druitt St, Sydney, NSW.Through sponsorship from the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office (HKETO), independent arts organiser Red Dose, will present its first major exhibition RED-VOLUTION at Hong Kong House on 80 Druitt Street, Sydney. The exhibition will start on Thursday 24 October and end Wednesday 13 November 2013.

RED-VOLUTION explores the importance of the colour red in Asia; including the role it plays in culture, fashion, religion and in particular ceremonies like weddings and showcases works by 13 contemporary artists from Hong Kong and across Australia.

“This exhibition presents Asian culture from different perspectives and displays the works of Hong Kong and Asian artists along with Asian-Australian and local Australian artists. It addresses the differences and similarities of how they interpret the ‘red’ culture into their art practice,” said Red Dose Artistic Director Kathy Leung.

Director of HKETO Steve Barclay said sponsorship of the event was in line with HKETO’s aim to strengthen cultural ties between Hong Kong and Australia.

“RED-VOLUTION is a small but important element of our efforts to nurture and promote Hong Kong arts and culture, and HKETO is honoured to be associated with it,” said Mr Barclay.
